Fact File
Where and when: River rafting in the Dominican Republic takes place in the mountains of the Cordillera Central along the country's longest river, the Yaque del Norte. Jarabacoa is the town where the majority of adventure companies are based. Rafting is more fun when there is plenty of water, so it follows that conditions will probably be best during the wettest months of the year.
Equipment: Life jackets, helmets and wet suits are provided by whatever company you decide to go rafting with. The boats are inflatable with heavy-duty bottoms and are large enough for about eight people. Guides carry waterproof containers, so feel free to bring cameras and video recorders.
